alrighty so I am just now diving into the whole portable application thing all running from a thumb/usb drive and find the U3 platform very interesting. I have scoured the internet and seems as if I can only install u3 formatted programs from various locations, but I know that some apps can run from a stand-alone drive and am wondering if there is way to just create an icon that will show up on the U3 Launchpad with the other applications, and I can then just point it to the Directory on the USB drive.

Anyone know of any way to do this?

Thanks for your help!

Michael

good link, but no dice. :(

The application does mention about dragging applications onto the USB drive for running directly from it, but my Question really is how to integrate the programs I put on the USB drive with the LaunchPad Taskbar. In otherwords how do I add my own program icon to U3's task bar.

The article above just talks about all the U3 applications that have been and are being developed for the u3 platform, but no directions on how to do it yourself.

Any other ideas?

Not really. You can check out the official U3 page HERE. Hope they have something you're seeking.

Fill out this survey and ask them to explain it to you.

Tell them Kate Purmal directed you to them.

XP -> I have tried the U3 site and many others that I found in Google searches and have yet to find anything. I did see that I could sign-up to receive the SDK for developing U3 applications, but I am not really wanting to develop anything, simply place a program icon on the start bar to launch a program that I want to run from the drive.

Jefro -> Thanks for your alternate options, but I really like the U3 format and what they are trying to do and the fact that many USB drive makers are developing it together and am interested only in my initial question and not trying to find an alternatives. I do thank you for your input though.

FJ -> I'll fill out the survey and see if there is a place for me to ask my question. But I really must ask. Who is "Kate Purmal" (you?) and why would they care? Thanks for your help.

If anyone has any experience developing u3, or has any advice on my question, please let me know.

Thanks.

Michael
