Hello there,
im new to win XP, but ive noticed everytime i plug my USB 128mb pen drive in it causes
xp to run (unless i stop it) some thing called photo wizard, or something similar, so as to enable me to print the images on this drive.
I dont want this to happen, how do i stop this occurring, or remove this "wizard" permanently?
If i ctl+del, i can stop this task, but there must be a better way..One of my replies to this post a couple of weeks ago said to:
"Go to:
Control Panel, Folder Options, File Types, Click the file you have on the flash drive, and you will see "opens with". Change it as you like"Well i dont know whats associated with it as it has many types of files on it,
pictures, webpages, programs, etc
i just dont want this (or any other wizard)
to run when i plug this in...
one other thing i have noticed is, that if i leave this "pen drive" plugged in when rebooting, the wizard doesent run, & its just displayed in explore as a drive, which is precisely what i want, but its not an option to always leave this device plugged in..so anyone have any ideas?
including a registry hack...thankyou....

Try this. Plug in your pen drive. Go to My Computer and right click the drive and select Properties. In the Autoplay tab, select Mixed Contents from the drop down. Highlight No Action and click Apply and then OK.

thankyou chuckyG,
i had tried that but it didnt make any difference..is there any other way? or other idea?
thankyou

Install TweakUI. Under its "My Computer" tweaking section, expand "Auto Play."
You can disable auto play for the drive letter your USB drive is assigned as well as change the handlers....
Hope that helps

hi chuckyG & cyberslug,
ive just resolved the problem,
i removed the device completely,
then i reinstalled it with the drivers for windows 98se (that came with the device),
win XP protested (in regards to installation of these older drivers), but i used the windows 98se drivers anyway, and the problem was solved.... XP aint as smart as it thinks..
thankyou for all the assistance :)
