Hi! I have a small network of 2 computers. I am using a linksys wireless router, a cable modem, and 1 wireless USB network adapter. I have the internet set up and file sharing set up. I have a Lexmark Z11 Paralell printer, which works well, and a Lexmark X83 P/C/F that is USB and when I go to my printers in My WIndows 98 Computer upstairs (no printers)and go to Printers Folder, I can see the Z11 but the X83 says "USER INTERVENTION REQUIRED-PRINTER IS OFFLINE), but it's on. My XP MAchine (both printers on it) see's both and has no problem. I can share files, and the internet when the computer is Logged off and at the blue Welcome Screen. I like to keep it logged off. I can share the Lexmark Z11 when i'm logged off too. I have NetBUIO on both machines. I am thinking the USB is not working because it's logged off and the USB ports open when I log in (I don't know)

In the 98 box go into Start>Settings>printers (I think that's where they are) You may need to Add the second network printer. You may also need to load the printer drivers manually in the 98 box and there may also be a USB driver problem. Is the other printer also USB or parallel?

Just another thought I'm sure you checked but did you enable sharing on the individual printers in the XP Printers folder?

I have a similar setup and when things go bad it's usually because I've buggered up the IP address. First, if you are running a firewall, make sure your print spooler is listed as a TRUSTED program. Try to contact your print server through your browser. Do this by punching in the print servers address. It's usually 192.168.1.* (The star can be anything from 100 to about 110 depending on what you have connected to lynksys. Mine is 101.) Play with the numbers until you find the correct IP address. You will know when your print server comes up on the browser. When you find the address then go to your printer properties and look at your port settings. It should read:

(port name) 192.168.1.*.PID:1 (printer name)

Mark this printer as 'DO NOT SHARE'

(printer sharing is only for printers that are connected to another computer as in your parallel printer)

The bidirectional support may or may not work depending on the model print server that you have, but it won't effect the printing.

Sorry... I should also add that when you bring upyour server on the browser, make sure your subnetmask and your default gateway are right. Unless you have costomized them they should read:
subnet 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

If you can not bring up your printer at all then you have a program blocking (a firewall or similar)

I have a Packard Bell Cyrix MII MMX running at 300Mhz, with 128 MB RAM. I MIGHT be able to upgrde to XP. On my XP Machine, it is set to obtain IP automaticly. On the printer spool, I can have it print directly to the Printer, if that's it. I have to chck my PB now becasue when I go to PB (packard Bell) on HOME (my workgroup) it says Nortan AntiVirus cannot connect to the Network computer, because the Trojan Horse virus was found. I gunna run NAV on my PB see if it's true. NIck
