this is a weird one... I was wondering if anyone else was having this problem...
my microsoft usb intellimouse mouse
just turns off out of the blue... I could be working on something... or surfing the web... or left the computer on and when I come back the mouse is off...
I am starting to think its the mouse... since its over a year old and its been banged around quite a bit... re boxed moved 3 times with it ;-)
anyone else having this problems with their intellimouse?

You might like to check in Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus Controllers > USB Root Hub > Properties > Power Management Tab and uncheck " Turn this device off".

i've had the same problem and i have done everything, updating, checking the usb connection, changing the power management and still doensn't work...
if anyone has a solution please tell me!
i have the same mouse by the way...

I have a logitech mouseman optical and have the same problem. Periodically the mouse will appear to be fine until XP is fully loaded then the light goes off and is unusable. A quick trick is to unplug the usb port and plug it back in, its a pain though. I usually just restart and it is back to normal. It doesnt appear to be a driver issue since my logitech drivers and your microsoft drivers are both doing the same problem. It has to be something within windows XP and its usb detection. I will do more research because it is very annoying. Hope someone finds a solution.

I have to join the fray and complain as well. I went so far as to buy a different mouse... originally i had the microsoft optical USB mouse, now I have the logitech cordless optical USB. I have read that some motherboard chipsets (i.e. VIA) have USB issues and you should make sure to hit the manufacturer's website and adjust bios settings and/or install additional USB filter drivers. I did ALL this and it seems to have alleviated yet not eliminated the problem. hope that helps.

Actually, your mouse may be defective. YOu may have a short in the cord. All microsoft optical mouses are very suseptible to this.
If you shake your mouse cord and the light goes off and on then its probably shorted in the cord.
So call microsoft and get a replacment as thier is a lifetime warranty on these mice.
I have 3 off them and only 1 has gone bad so far.
Hope this helps, if it does email me
