My mouse randomly stops working every now and then. After a few seconds I get a message saying USB device not recognized(also conveniently says to click on the message in order to get help which is a bit funny). If i unplug the mouse and then plug it back in it works for a while, but then the mouse stops working more and more often until i restart my computer. I've downloaded the latest drivers and tried a couple other ideas I've seen posted here but the problem still persists. I know it's not the mouse because I've tried it on other computers and it works fine. Any help you could provide would be very much appreciated.

could be a problem with the usb port or the mouse.

try to borrow another USB mouse and see if it happens, and have th other person try your mouse out and see if it happens to them

If this happens to all usb devices you might want to see if there are any updates for windows, or even a BIOS update.

If you have the PS/2 adapter use it. Some time you need to update windows and update your mouse driver to work.

I tried the PS/2 adapter and apparently that doesn't work at all. Tried it with several different mice and they all had the same problem. Although the problem has gotten worse since then. Now i can no longer fix it by unplugging and plugging back in the mouse into the usb. I have to restart the computer every time i want to use a mouse.

I have a USB mouse and it has been doign exaclty the same thing! It stops working totally every few minutes, especially when the computer is busy, and will give the 'USB device not connected' tone in windows. Then will start working again after a few seconds. And it does this over and over and over again. My solution was to buy a new mouse which worked fine for a few months but then the problem started up again. This is my third mouse ive traded in. Fixes the problem for a few months then just starts up again. By the way this is the second computer to do this.

I have exactly the same problem for the second time. I once solved it on my computer but i dont know what i did, perhaps it was all the usb filters i downloaded but now i have the same problem again after having a HD crash and a new HD. Some people say it will solve the problem if you buy a separate usb card. You can try these drivers if it works http://www.viaarena.com
The problem started at first when i changed my motherboard
