I broke the pins to the original ps2 keyboard controller and needed advice before i went and bought a usb keyboard. Can i swith to a usb keyboard and still use my computer?

The issue you may run into is trying to enter the BIOS (setup) screens when using a USB keyboard. Most systems will not use USB unless the setting to Enable USB devices is Enabled in the BIOS. Now you may not be able to get to the BIOS. If the USB keyboard does work in the POST screens then think twice before clearing the CMOS. The default setting for legacy USB devices is Disabled.

Chances are you'll be completely fine, no problems, with a USB keyboard as long as you have a USB port.

Thanks everyone, my windows 98 asks for usb drivers and i will be upgrading to XP. Hope my system sees it, I will not reset the bios, thank you.

WinXP will not be able to access the BIOS either. You are not in any OS at that point. Only difference will be that WinXP has native support for USB and Win98 needs drivers.
You said you broke pins on the PS/2 Keyboard. Get another PS/2 keyboard to use when needed. Find one on the side of the road or at resale shops.
