Specs: Windows xp pro
Keyboard and mouse not recognized after
windows boots up, I have tried every usb port
and have tested that the port work with other
usb devices they do! its like the system is
searching for the original keyboard and mouse,
which have worn out. is there a way to tell the
system to allow other keyboards?

You don't need to tell the system that you've connected a new KB and mouse. Windows should recognise all keyboards automatically, whether they PS2, USB or even USB-wireless for basic functions, without having to install any external drivers.

All you should see first time you connect them up is "Windows is installing software (ie drivers) for this device" in a tool-tip message above the system tray.

If you didin't get any of that it's possible your kb and mouse are both faulty.
