Hi, Need some help. Just did a reinstall of WinXP and did the motherboard driver reinstall (Tyan 1854 w/ USB 1.0) and can't find "Universal Serial Bus controllers" under Device Manager. So can't install a new USB printer because it isn't recognized or comes up with a print error. Then noticed that the USB isn't in the Device Mgr. So do i reinstall WinXP? I don't think that it is a hardware issue on the motherboard but how to tell? The Tyan CD didn't have a USB setup just other drivers installed (Via 4in1 driver). I did enable Universal Plug and Play if that is relevant on WinXP. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you! david

You will have to download SP1a (service pack) for windows xp to recognize USB. Just go to Windows updates and it should be there. It takes a while to download and install, will seem like forever on a dial-up modem.

It ended up that somehow the USB was turned off in the BIOS (don't remember doing that). Turned it back on and the USB was found. Incidentally SP1 didn't/wouldn't solve this issue since the BIOS will override it before the OS loads it and say it is inactive but it was worth a shot.
