A question to which I haven`t been able to find a straight answer:

When Using External USB floppy drives is it necessary to use the safely remove hardware tool before shutting down a system? Or does shutting the system down safely disconnect it anyway?

"When Using External USB floppy drives is it necessary to use the safely remove hardware tool before shutting down a system?"

No.

Why did you title your post "Usb hard Drives" when your question was about USB floppy drives?

That thing is for removing the hardware when the
computer is still on. I get the same for a wireless adaptor on my laptop, and shutdowns are
no problem.

Not for a floppy drive, but your subject refers to Hard drives. For Hard Drives, the answer is yes.

For Hard Drives, the answer is yes or end up with RAW partition.

XpUser, that RAW thing has bothered me for a long time. Do you remember how/where you found out that powering down without safely shutting down USB drives caused the problem?

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

My experience with external USB hard drives is that you DON'T need to use the "Safely Remove Hardware Tool" before shutting down the system. I've NEVER had a RAW partition result from this using 6 different computers (all running versions of XP) and 5 different external HDDs with enclosures from 4 different manufacturers.

Woof, your post reads "When Using External USB floppy drives..." Your Subject, as I pointed out, lists "Usb Hard Drives."

Love the signature, btw.

I did not think you were "talking out of (your) ass" Woof, but I did note a discrepancy between the title and text of your original post.

Apology accepted.

Like any Windows program, you need to hit save before you disconect.
Other than that USB is Plug and Play.
That means plug it in and play with it.
USB theory says you can install 127 USB devices on 1 USB port and do the same with all of them.
Don't matter if your computer is on or off.
Like the name says, gettin old, been at this a while.
