When I boot my computer with my external HD plugged in the hard drive works fine. When I boot it without the HD plugged in and then try to plug it in after a full boot, the drive does not show in explorer/my computer. The drive does show in the disk manager with no problem. If I right click on the drive in disk manager and click 'explore', explorer opens and shows my files on the hd for a second then resets and only shows my internal drive. The HD uses drivers provided by windows and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. All the correct services (plug and play, logical disk manager and logical disk manager AS) are running. I am completely at a loss.

Plug it in after boot. Attempt to view both ways and then go to event logs. See why they say you can't view device.

No real errors. The only event was DCOM error trying to start windows imaging. Changed windows imaging to manual. Tried again, and it started fine with the same problem occurring with the hard drive.
Any other recommendations??
