"I tried to format it but it says its WRITE PROTECTED"
formating will wipe the drive & you will lose all data on the drive. Is this OK ?? is this a hard drive in a enclosure or one of those usb flash drives.

Aaliyah1 and Larry ....All I can suggest is to consult a data recovery company this is because your USB Flash Drive are corrupt so they need to be fix first and data recovery comes i don't think data recovery software can help you out.

And of course Larry if the files inside your USB drive is not important then you can format them but if its important then you surely need a recovery.

May be this link can help you.....

My new Toshiba nb305 did this on a brand new USB memory stick when I was trying to make the restoration media. You need to reinstate the partitioning. Put in the USB drive. Right click on my computer, select manage and then disk management. Once you have given it a FAT32 partition you will be able to format it again.
