Hello,
I am in some serious trouble. I have been using a Kingston USB 2.0 High Speed storage "stick." It has a 512MB capacity. I work in the film industry and have been using this device to carry scripts, images of actors, spreadsheets and other documents to and from set. My personal computer is a PC...at work, I use a G4 with OS10. Today, I carried my stick to work as usual and, once put in the USB port...the computer said that there were no files on the device that MAC could read. This has never happened. After returning home, I put it in my PC, selected the drive and a message that the device "is not formatted" came up!!! We shoot tomorrow and I NEED several files from the stick.
Please, can anyone tell me if there is a program (free I hope) that can search this device and help me save the files.
Thanks for any help you can give me!
Christopher

on carrying it to work you could of damaged it. just a question how did you get the seven files onto the data stick are they not on a hard drive somewhere. i would recommend in future you save all files to your hard disk too.
as for recovery before you start playing about see if you have a warranty with this stick contact kingston see if they can help you dont want to void a warranty by tinkering. if they will recover data under warranty free of charge

I understand all that you have said. Yes, this device is meant for carrying to and from work daily. It even has a keyring attachment so you can jam it into your pocket with loose change. So, in this respect, I beg to differ that I have done something wrong by "carrying" it to work. As for calling Kingston, I already did that. They said to ask friendly people in forums such as this for recovery program information. And, of course I know that I should have saved a hard copy. In fact, I was in the very process during the stick's failure. Please don't rub salt in my open wound...I need assistance, not criticism. Thanks.

i wasnt criticising. or at least didnt mean to. i am looking for some help for you. but i have no idea if its possible to recover data from usb using available software.
http://www.renewdata.com/software/GDB/gdbnt.zip
try using that software see first if it will actually scan your usb device. and what comes up this will tell you if you can recover this software is not free but hope it helps.
does it say format. or can you go my computer and open it up to see folders etc?

Give Handy Recovery a go, it's freeware, and might just be able to pull you out of the mire.
