|If the port is physically damaged you may hear the dong-ding / ding-dong sound while using whatever is plugged into the port - that should only happen when it's first plugged in, and when it's unplugged. If you hear that, try plugging it into a different USB port.|
The plastic plug inside the USB plug and the USB port that prevents you from plugging the plug in upside down should not be missing. The contacts in the port should not be bent out of place. The outer metal shell of the port should not be bent so the plug is loose when plugged in.
The same thing can happen if the USB plug on the device you plug in is bent out of shape, or if any USB connection is loose.
You may need to plug it into a different USB port otherwise
It may not be recognized properly if it's plugged into a port in an external USB hub, or a port on the front of a desktop case.
