Subject: USB Barcode Scanner not available
OS: XP Pro
CPU/Ram: Dual core/1gb
Model/Manufacturer: Dell Dimension E531
Comment:

I have a USB barcode scanner that works fine when I plug it in, but, when I go to use it the next day (after logoff for the night and logon in the morning) It doesn't work.
When I unplug it and plug it back in, it works just fine but repeats the process the next day.

Can anybody help me with this issue?

Are you connecting directly to a USB port or to a hub?

No,I don't have the computer hibernate but it does go standby after a hour. I also have the hard disk turn off after a hour.

Its a PSC QS2500 and in the device manager, its showing it as "working properly" but it still doesn't scan.

I unplugged it and replugged it back in. Now it works, I logged off and made it go into standby. When I logged back on it works fine.

Try setting the harddrive to never suspend.

Have you tried the newest drivers?

Have you disabled any and all COM ports?

Came in this morning and it works. To answer your questions Razor23,
I believe it is the latest driver since because I just downloaded it a week or 2 ago. The computer never came with any serial or parallel ports (Dell Dimension E531) but I did put a PCI card that has dual serial and single parallel ports.

Thanks for all the help.

I have never had any luck when letting a HDrive go into the suspend mode. I am glad to hear that solved your problem. Just another of the many quirks that come along with the PC platform.

I have worked with Linux a little and have really liked it (not as many problems and can do alot more) but with the company, I got to stick with Windows........ Until something forces the company to change.
