hey
The other day my long tiring ADSL ethernet modem broke so i went out and got myself a USB ADSL Modem. Firstly i plugged it in, then the drivers then reset.
I have no clue what-so-ever what to do next, it says im connected but no web pages at all load...
im not sure what to do next because this is getting quite frustrating as i need the adsl for ummm my studies :PAny help into this situation would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Shane

hi,
Within IE Tools>Connections can you see your internet connection? If it is not set as your default connection make it so, check the properties to ensure it is using your new modem. If a connection is not present run the Connection wizard.
Women and PC's are very similar… I’ve been ‘dabbling’ for years and I still don’t understand them..

ok i went to the connections tab and nothing is there only my dial up which i have to use as the ADSL isnt functioning. I try to put username and password but my modem isnt there so i cannot assign it as the one i used to dial up to. I have installed all drivers fine im sure... well any other info would be helpful i think just the problem being how to detect my modem in so i can connect to it is the problem
by the way thanks Jacques thanks for your post it has helped me identify the main source of the problem and now just need to get how to get this working..

"Firstly i plugged it in, then the drivers"
Usually with a USB connection it is essential that the drivers are loaded first BEFORE any device is connected to the 'puter. When the device is then connected the system will pick it up and load the correct driver.
Did you check with the modem manual?

can you see the new modem in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Network Adaptors?

firstly to jacques - it IS there but its called "Conexant AccessRunner USB ADSL Lan Adapter" i dont know if this is still rite being the modem but it cant be seen when i try to make it the modem to connect to.
secondly to Rays enquiry, i uninstalled it all, unplugged it. Then i put in the CD and nothing happened...so i put it in and it detected it and started to install. Im not too sure what the next option is if i can get the Modem detected it would be fine.
thanks for your replies and thanks in advance, more information very helpful

Check your add/remove programs list,is the modem listed?
If so,uninstall/remove it(disconnect modem 1st).
Now get your cd with the drivers on,load the drivers,it should ask you then to plug in the modem.

Im unsure of where we are at with this. Can you clarify can the device can be seen by windows? According to the manual I DL'd It states you should see the device under network adaptors and the Conexant AccessRunner ADSL icon installed in the Control Panel. Is this the case? Also do you have a micro-filter on the line? Have you run the New Connection wizard from Network Connections within Control Panel. Sorry if you have to repeat some info, I dont see why this doesnt work

ok the icon is on control panel, i have a filter on the line as well. My connection for the adsl is in the network connections. Its just the modem not being detected i know this sounds strange but i have tried all the suggestions you have said. Ill get back to you when i get more info, sorry about the delay the last message i wrote prior was about 11pm or so hear so i had to get off. Thanks for the help
