Yes. Windows XP should work with USB 2.0 right out of the box. Some motherboards may need special drives. Check the website of the manufacture of your motherboard, and also the manufacture site for the PCI card for updated drivers. If that doesn't work, considering ditching your pirated version of windows for a genuine one and then maybe one of the service packs will fix your problems.

if you don't want sp2, try this:

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

sry, this link requires minimum sp1 installed.

ok well i though of buyig a genuine version but it seemed pointless as id rater just buy vista so for the mean time pirated one seems quite nice and im dirt poor and microsoft is charging my arm and leg for a copy, and no XP with no service pack does not work with usb 2.0 out of the box it does not at all even with a genuine version cause it doesnt with our real copy for the family computer

You obviously have an illegal copy of Windows & you already know that you can't run USB 2.0 w/o the SP, so why'd you even bother posting this question? We can't tell you what you need to know, but a little creative googling will explain how to install SP2.

LOL so that's the "don't ask". Man, just say I downloaded a copy of XP. it's not like microsoft is going to track you down and take everything you own.

Nvidia 7900GT
SATA II 2x 300gig 7200rpm 16mb cache RAID-0+1
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

ok well now its kinda working sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt my usb router thingy is fine but when i connect my mp3 it complains about placing it in a usb 2.0 when it is and shows all the ports that are usb 2,0 and it shows that my usb thingy is in one, that my PS2 controller is in another and that 2 ports are free... its all weird and yes it is illegal im poor and it was enough to buy one copy of it, dont feel like buying another one when vista is comming out soon.
plus i did google and it gave me nothing except things ive tryed or does not apply to my case.

You can as well use the M/B makers drivers for USB2 functionality. You are not bound to MS USB2 drivers only.
Conversely, you can buy a PCI-to-USB2 card at a few bucks and enjoy USB2 functionality all the way. These cards come with their own USB2 drivers. They have 4 or 5 USB2 ports on them. Some of them even have firewire ports, as well.

I had this same problem and it has nothing to do with not running SP1 or SP2.
You said "BTW i have a via chipset"!
If this is a reference to the Motherboard Chipset, Which I also had.
What I discovered is that for some reason, the VIA chipset didn't like/work with a USB 2 PCI Card with a VIA chip on it. I tried 2 new ones and finally Bought a USB 2 PCI Card with a ALi chipset on it and worked just fine. Also found that a USB 2 PCI Card with a NEC Chipset would work with the VIA motherboard Chipset.

to jpw hmm very intresting indeed kk well i do have a via chipset and it did come with a driver cd just not very good as it was not a driver it was actually a .exe file which recognizd i now have usb2 just whenever i plus a usb2 device it complains about how it can go faster with usb2 lol i was like ok there retardo lol, and i dont feel like paying for a new usb pci thingy right now so like it would be nice just to get this to work fine cause i know at least with SP2 it does work fine cause ive been lending it to my dad tell i got my power supply and like it as been working fine (his PC has SP2) untill i placed it back into mine gah kk well thx for all ur help i mean i just want the 10x fasterness of usb2 but at least i do have 4 extra working usb1 ports which i still needed anyways

If your Dad's Computer motherboard doesn't have the VIA Chipset that is why it works in his.
Like I said I tried 2 different brands of USB 2 PCI cards but they both had one thing in common, they had a VIA chip on them and would not work. I finally found the USB 2 PCI card with a ALi chip on it and it worked just fine. And yes the ones with the VIA chip had a CD with the drivers on it, but they would not work.
Find a different USB 2 PCI card with the NEC or ALi chip and it will solve your problem.
