Hey ppl, I have a problem with my comp. Ive just installed a new piece of of kit into my comp, which is the USB 2.0 ports, my motherboard is an Abit BD7 II. And each time I try to transfer data using my usb stick using these new ports it runs ridiculously slow but when i try the stick on someone elses comp it works fine.. Although when I try using a different usb stick in the ports that ive just installed the tranfer rate is perfectly fine.

the Usb stick that I'm using is integral (2.0!). Are these just not so good good sticks or wat?..or does my motherboard need specific drivers or something?...

any suggestion? expect for the obvious one..like buy a new usb stick!.

thanks ppl.

You need at least XP SP1 for USB 2.

In Device Manager, look for the word enhanced host controller under Universal Serial Bus. That tells you that it's USB 2.

If all is well, I would uninstall all references to USB in Device Manager and then reboot, letting Windows reinstall the USB drivers.

USB 2.0 cards require 2 IRQs to function and drivers from the manufacturer for Operating Systems other than Windows XP and Windows 2000. The USB 2.0 card should be installed in a PCI slot that either shares with onboard USB or one that shares with NO other device. Normally, the new USB 2.0 card will also share with video card if the video card is AGP.

Windows XP and 2000 users should install the appropriate Windows Service Pack before installing the card. For Windows XP Service Pack 2 contains the High Speed USB drivers and Windows 2000 requires Service Pack 4.
