yesterday i bought an ipod, but on plugging it into my only usb 2.0 port (i dont have firewire), i found that my computer could not detect it. I checked the device manager, and it said it was working properly. I tried installing an updated driver, with no change. I tried troubleshoot, but it couldn't find my problem. I tried uinpluging and pluging in again numerous times with no results. any ideas why this is hapening? thanks.

try plugging in a different usb device and see if this works, i feel the device u r plugging oin is faulty also if it's not try uninstalling usb port in device manager, and then refreshing system, or restarting the machine, this will reinstall the usb drivers

Is it an onboard usb 2.0 or do you have a card installed? Do you have any other USB devices attached to other ports? Here's my thought. I bought a USB 2.0 scanner. I have onboard usb 2.0. I also have usb 1.1 devices attached to my onboard usb. As soon as I installed the software/ driver it detected a USB device but was unable to associate the correct driver (unknown device). THerefore my scanner would not work. I unplugged all my USB devices, and after reloading the scanner drivers, it worked. After reinstalling the USB 1.1 devices, my scanner would not work again indicating a conflict with devices. I had to go out and buy a USB 2.0 card in order to seperate USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices. If this is your scenario that's probably the problem. Also if it's onboard USB, go into your bios and ensure the USB port is turned on.
