Comment:

I have a Dell desktop that is about 3 years old and bought a Samsung MP3 player 2 months ago. It worked fine from the start, but I got a virus on my machine and had to reinstall XP. Now when I plug the flash-based MP3 player into the usb, I get a message saying I am trying to use a High Speed USB device - the MP3 player, on a computer that is USB 1 something. But when I look at the spec's of my computer, they are USB 2.0

I've called Samsung and they are of no help. What stinks is somehow I misplaced the installation cd the MP3 player came with, but Samsung support swear there are no drivers or anything on that that would fix my problem anyway.

Sounds like somehow I need updated USB 2.0 drivers. My Dell disc came with a bunch of drivers for network card, audio card, etc. but I don't see anything on there for USB. I've done Windows updates...everything and I still can't get my computer to operate as USB 2.0 and it had been like 2 weeks ago.

Any thoughts?

How about http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=...

Perhaps you need to install WinXP SP2?

Or go to the Dell site, enter your PC info and it should have what you need.

You need SP2. Also, be sure to install the motherboard chipset drivers.

Another thing you could do is to add a USB2 card (~$30/4 slots).

This way your headache is gone int pronto.

You could also try Everest or SANDRA Lite (filehippo.com) to do hardware mapping/cataloging, and see what driver updates you need to have.
