USB 2.0 hub not recognized.

Hello. I just got a powered 4 port USB 2.0 hub and when I plug it in I get an error bubble that says: "USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it..."
When I look in Device Manager it says it's "Unknown" and doesn't have any drivers for it. Of course it didn't come with drivers. It's a no-name brand hub that claims all over the packaging that it's perfectly compatible with Win XP, Macs, Plug & Play and is USB 2.0 compliant in every way. I've tried plugging it into all my USB ports and no dice, but everything else I plug in works fine. Any ideas how to fix it?

Is it possible your PC's Motherboard either does not have any USB 2.0 Ports or you have not connected them properly and you are then connecting a USB Hub to a USB1.1 Port?
Your Device Manager > + Universal Serial Bus Controllers cluster should show "Enhanced USB2 Host Contrller" if the MoBo has USB2.0 M

Nope, that's not the problem. My motherboard has 6 USB ports and they're all USB 2.0. I have a few other USB 2.0 devices (ie: external hard drive) and they all work fine, and at full speed too. This is the first thing I've had a problem with.

I ran into the same thing, but my local neighborhood computer guru fixed it: As I recall, he went to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Managers, USB Controllers, and removed all controllers. Then rebooted, and the system found each device and reinstalled the correct drivers. He said this is a relatively unknown problem and found the fix by accident, but he has run into it several times. Mine still works fine. Hope I didn't leave anything out.
