Here is what I do and what happens.
Visit a website. Drag the icon next to the URL in the address bar, and drop it to the desktop to create a shortcut link. I click on the link and it says:
"Windows could not find 'http://blahnlah.com' Make sure you typed the name correctly."
...and also tells me how i can do a file search on it.
It does this on all URL shortcuts weither the site exists or not.
I reinstalled IE 6 (newest version) but it still is not working. This suddenly happened one day.

I just tried it on mine and ,it did work,However , I had a problem with the rc1 of sp2 that had certain properties that wouldn't allow pages to load when the back button was pressed Right now windows update isn't working properly for me ,, Have you updated to the IE6 sp1 and all other updates??
MSI 845e mb 768 mb am and a p4 2.4n running xp ,win 2000 advanced server and win 98 SE alot to learn and I know so little !!!!

Custom URL Shortcut Icons Lost
Jan 20 '04 (PCMag)"I put shortcuts to some of my favorite Web pages in the Quick Launch area of the taskbar. Initially, each icon was different. The Yahoo! icon was a red Y!, for instance. I didn’t choose the icons; they were the icons that appeared when I dragged the URL out of the address bar.
