Hello- i want to enforce internet off limits at my home. to start i would just like to have a few urls automatically redirect to a default page, which displays the selected url is off limits. ive read about listing the url to redirect to in the hosts file, but it is not working.
i have it listed like so:
127.0.0.1 www.myspace.com
but when i type in "www.myspace.com" in IE, it takes me there.
I just tried it on mine. 127.0.0.1 <TAB> then www.google.com worked for me. You using c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc? for the host file location?
Didn't work on Firefox tho.
There are lots of 3 party programs out there with parental controls on.
It annoys the hell out of me normally, but have you tried Norton. It has a good parental control list on it, that you can edit. Although can be cumbersome.

thanks for the reply adam. ive been looking at this link youve sent me for a few days, i didnt find any solution on it.
i can enter: 127.0.0.1 google.com- and that will work for "google.com" in the address bar. but when i type in www.google.com in the addy bar, it works- after i put that exact string in the hosts file. ive put in http://www.google.com in the hosts file- and that works in IE afterward also...
does the hosts file only work for short domain names instead of full paths?
