To start: I have a toshiba satellite 1400-s151 laptop which is 2-3 years old. I have window xp home edition. It never gave me a problem like this...UNTIL NOW. It all started with this blue screen is:
Kernel_data_inpage_error
Then it says if it is the first time the this happens restart your computer
It also says that it could be due to bad installation of hardware and/or software. Ways to fix his is to disable Bios memory options such as caching or shadowing.
oxoooooo7a (0xc0201850, 0xc000000e, 0c042f3860, 0x80614cbb)
The after that it says Dumping Physical Memory.
and underneath that is says something like(didn't quite catch it sorry:(: atapi-sys-address F9788CA8 base at f9779000 datestamp....(didn't get the last part of the last line sorry:(then it will restart and it will recover (after dumping physcial memory) and windows error report screen will show up and will say:
windows has recovered from serious error (on error report it will say: error signature: BCCode: 7a, BCP1:Co20B1850, BCP2: C000000E, BCP3:80614CBB, BCP4: 0D7A6860
OS ver:5_1_2600
SP:-2-0 Product:256-1
on error report contents from tech info click here:
-the following 2 files will be included in error report:
1. drive c:\Docume~1/Nabeel(user name)\LOCALS~\Temp\wer484.dir00/Mini06305-01.dmp
2. drive c:\Docume~1/Nabeel(user name)\LOCALS~\Temp\wer484.dir00/sysdata.xmlThat was just the first time. After a couple of days it got worse by doing a couple of times more and showed me another error which is (not as often as the first):
Kernel_Stack_Input_error
same thing as the first error except it says now:
0X00000077 (0XC000000E, 0XC000000E, 0X0000000, 0X099FD000)And then after that it said this one time also on a black screen:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
After that, it just keep showing the black screen (pxe-361) over and over again and makes a noticeably loud click noise never heard before (not link clicking on a link).
I pinpoint the problem why did it all happened and I came down with 4 things (its only these anyway:)):
1. my first and main suspicion the whole thing started is when my the free download manger encountered a damn BUG. I uninstalled the program but it didn't help (also erased its registry history with regcleaner and tweakregcleaner)
2. I acidently set my externel hard drive one volume (have 3 volume in the external HD) as active (from computer mangement, storage, disk management snap-in, but i dont think that is the problem because i had it active for about a month and during that time it never gave me an error or any of that kind... (again until the download manger encountered a bug but not the problem with the hd just the error)
3. I downloaded 300 files (about 20 mb each) in less then 8 days (i was on trial so during that time i want to downloaded as much as i can so i won't get fully billed :)) and it was the first time in those 8 days i used my laptop 16 hours a day. However, again i also don't think thats the problem because i scanned all the files with the virus many times and spyware (the site also has a strict policy on spyware so they couldn't and din't have any, for that i am sure:))4. Also, one more thing i just remembered now which is i scanned-only with a registry cleaner called repair registry pro and it found a lot of problems (more then 300 mostly file/path reference). therefore, should i buy it to fix it (is it important to do that? is this be the cause of the kernel message errors i am having?) or i should buy another registry cleaner that is better then this one (which one do u think i should get or should i get the one that finds the most problem in my computer?)
MY REQUEST to all of you is: Can you please tell me how to fix the bug (if that’s what making the error screen show up) by what program that does it and how to undo the external hard drive volume as unactive because i don't use it all the time (just to backup files) and just turn it off when i am done. Or what do u suggest I do (excluding virus, spyware check done that already)

Firt things first.
Start the system in "Safe mode" then turn off "System Restore".Having done that bit, then run the Antispyware/virus programs. You don't mention which ones you use. Some are not really cleaners so you really need to be careful. 2 of the more popular are: AdAware from lavasoft and Spybot S&D.
If you really must have a Registry cleaner there are a number of good (Free) programs on the web. ToniArts Reg cleaner or RegSeeker to name a couple.
You might also want to run Ccleaner.
Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten.

Justme,
I love the way you said "if you really must have a regsitry cleaner", kind of the way I feel as I use jv16 to double check uninstalls, but I never run a "cleaner" through my registry.
That is asking for a "meltdown" to me.
Usuall we run check disk to fix such errors in recovery console...boot to XP cd and choose first repair and run "chkdisk"Rich M

My 2¢ in the form of a question to clarify:
Since I suspect the external HDD as the most likely culprit in the genesis of this error message, can you post details of the device please.
M

sounds pretty much like a virus to me. My mom and dads dell desktop might have had the same problem. Everytime it came on it would display a blue screen and a bunch of words of which i do not know. The first time it happened we were able to remove the power cord, insert it again, and it would boot up fine. Second time it catastrophic, it wouldnt let us into windows any more. Im probably thinking its a virus that locks up the hard drive or does not allow access to windows.

the external hd is seagate 120 brand new ide hd
(just one month) which is now corrupted and
unreadable (just the volume that was set as active
acidently, other works fine). so does anyone
knows please how can i still get the data from the
corrupted volume and same it some where else
on the hd or another exteranl hd or computer?
about the laptop, now it won't even let me in and
just boot up and shows the black screen whichis:
PXE-E61: media test failure, chec k cable
And also, it makes loud noticable click noise
when it boots up as if it is trying to access the hd
(this noise i never heard before) can you tell me
what it means. if it means my hd is failing and
dying is their anyway i ca still back upmy files if it
does't boot up even in safe mode! please let
meknow as soon as u can

tomcruise3230, just my 2¢ worth. Have to agree with the 'nasty' theory. Sounds like it to me. Hopefully you can clean and set things right. There are a few REALLY destructive critters out there which damage things (funny??). Hope you didn't get one of those!

TomCruise,
I hate to pester you with more questions than answers:-(
It is REALLY important to know the exact type of HDD you have and how you have configured it in the system for two very vital reasons:
1. If it is very wrongly configured and left too long that way, it will be unusable.2. To get out of the current problem BIOS Troubleshoot may be needed or HDD configuration has to be changed.
If you had given the EXACT Make and model number of the Seagate HDD instead of just limiting the information to Manufacturer's name and HDD size, these supplimental Qs would not have arisen.
I want to be sure whether you are referring to a true USB External HDD or an IDE HDD installed using an EXTERNAL enclosure that has a USB Interface to the computer.I have just recently given a troubleshoot in this forum for the latter situation. I can't remember the Serial number of that post at prsent.
M

on the reciept info from newegg.com this is what it
says:
enclosure 3.5 usb20 ams ds-23116b2bk
065779180063hd 120 gb seagate st31200261 8 mb
5mt11xvk

Well, st3120026 is a Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM with 8 MB cache. it is actually an Internal IDE HDD which you are using as External device using an enclosure with USB connection to the PC's USB port and a power connector.
Remember you have an Internal IDE drive in that laptop and that is the Master. How have you set the Jumper on this Drive? How is the BIOS seeing the two HDDS.
I have seen problem in Desktops PCs when people forget to change the default master jumper of the IDE HDD to Slave when placing them in an external enclosure and using them as EXTERNAL HDD. I have not connected it on Laptops but I guess it should work in that too provided it is recognized by the BIOS.
M

i don't know how i set the jumper on the internad
hd in the external case (how do u find out) also
how do u look at bios to see how it is looking at
the two hdds because i have no clue! sorry!
please help!
also, i made a mistake by telling u the wrong error
message given by the corrupted volume onthe
external hd. the correct one is:
this disk is not accessible
the disk STRUCTURE is corrupted or unreadableif its not the same thing as the first error message i
wrote, then do i need different method to get data
or have to do someting else to recover it? can u
please let me know as soon as u can thank u very
much

A: Enter BIOS Setup screen of your Toshiba Satellite 1400 S-151Laptop Computer:
1.Shut down and Restart the Laptop PC.
2. Press the [Esc] key while the system processes its Power On Self Test (POST). In order to use this method, the computer must be "off", meaning not in sleep/suspend or hibernate mode. Press the power button, then immediately press the [Esc] key (it doesn't hurt to hold the key down). When the POST finishes, you'll be prompted to press the F1 key to enter BIOS setup. Press the [F1] key to access the BIOS setup program
3.You have to use the Legend shown there [Usually at the bottom of the screen] about the use of Kesy strokes to use to Navigate, Select and Edit(Change) the Menu and Items in Menu /sub menu to alter the BIOS Setup , Save the Changes and Exit from the BIOS Setup screen. Using appropriate key and menus Locate where IDE HDD information is seen.
4. Find if your Seagate ST 312006 IDE Deive is listed.5. Give us your Finding.
B> Changing the Jumper on IDE to Slave [SL] if it is in Master [MA] or Cable Select [CS] position.
1. Shut Down your PC and Power Off the PC.
2. Disconnect the Enclosure containing the Seagate Barracuda ST 3120026
3. Open the Enclosure [
4. Reverse of the steps you first did to get the HDD inside]
5. Carefully pull the short Flat Ribbon Cable and Power Connecor cable from the Back of the HDD.
6. Loacte the Jumper pins and do the
Jumper settings7. See which two pins are connected by the Plastic Jumper Cap.
8 . Look at the back Labelled or Printed Circuit side for a Jumper Diagram
9. Make it Slave [SL]
10. Connect all Cables and Close the enclosure and Reconnect the Enclosure and connect it to the Laptop. Reboot and Check the BIOS Setup.

okay i understand almost all of what u said but not
step 4 (reverse of the steps you first did to the
hdd) and when i open the enclosur in step three
what hd i put in (the laptops or the same hd that
was already in)?

I am sorry, I did not read what I typed; I agree it is confusing:-(
I meant to say "Repeat" the steps you originally did to get the HDD inside the enclosure and by mistake used the word " Reverse" as my brain wave had already reached the end of the troubleshoot [i.e. closing up of the enclosure which requires "Reversal" of the original steps to open the enclosure!] but my hunting & pecking fingers were too slow on the keyboard to keep up with the tought process:-)
Let me restate step
#4. Open the ENCLOSURE as you have done previously, locate the Seagate Barracuda HDD, and then change its Jumper to SLAVE. It might be set on Cable Select or Master when you originally mounted it inside that enclosure.
Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to set the troubleshoot straight:-)
M

thats okay man u don't have to say sorry with all
ur help. your help is enough as it is :) on to the
problem, i understand exactly now what should i
do with it. however, i have just one question:
before i do that, iwill back up the files from the
other volume so it won't get corrupted or
unreadable (it may happen) to another good
external hd. and about that can i send
simulaneously files from one volume of one
external hd to another external hd with a laptop
(both connected via 2 usb1.1) or i just have to do
the old fashion way (send the file from one
external hd to the laptop then from the laptop
send the file to the 2nd external hd)

tomcruise,
When you say the "Other HDD", are you referring to the Internl IDE HDD in the toshiba satellite 1400-s151 laptop that is presumably a SINGLE Master? Since you have not given me any feed back as to wheteher or not you have already done ther Part A of the troubleshoot, i.e. BIOS Setup check I had asked you to do, I am not getting the context of your question clear.
For the sake of simplicity, do not introduce a 3rd IDE HDD in another External Enclosure connected to the above laptop with USB interface. adding another variable. One issue will again be BIOS setup, the other the Power Supply; this tiny laptop with its small PSU may not be able to support all these devices with the power supply.
I just searched and found its SPECS and it has a CD-RW drv.
I would suggest, you back up personal files to CDs, I know that Laptop has a Multi-function DVD-CD-RW drive. Please give me the BIOS setup at the moment, before you make the Jumper reconfiguration of the Seagate HDD inside the Ext Enclosure.
M

well i didn't give u the bios setup yet because i
didn't turn on the bad laptop yet, however if u
really want me to do that, can i do the bios setup
checkup for the seagate extenal hd on another
good laptop (if i can, do i have to turn it on as
soon as the computer boot up?)
and about another external hd, that one a
complete different externl hd which has the
external case and harddrive together and its not
an ide and it has its oswn power supply adapter
just like the first external hd (so power supply
don't matter right because i am using the external
hds are using their own power)
and about the cd-rw funtions, can i save large
files (i have each at least 130 mb) and if i can, will
i get the data back from the cds when i replace the
bad hd from the laptop with a new one and want
to save it or transfer the files from cds to the new
hd. please let me know what ever u know about
these questions! you have been a great help! !!!
thanks a lot! only few more follow-ups and
questions and i will be fine! thanks again

I was out of town and hence this delayed response:-(
In order to avoid fresh problems to any other systems including "another good Laptop", PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT the Seagate IDE Device inside the Enclosure to them. We want the information about this 'ailing IDE device' from the BIOS Setup of the 'ailing Laptop' BEFORE and AFTER our proposed troubleshoot suggested earlier .If the Second 'truly External HDD' was previously connected along with the Seagate HDD within the Enclosure, you may attempt the File Saving from the Note Book PC's internal HDD to the said True HDD.If this is not the case, please DO NOT Complicate the problem by introducing another varaible at this point by connecting the true External HDD now for the purpose of file transfer. I hope I am communicating the point across without any ambiguity.
Since each CD can hold upto ~650-700MB data , you may burn essential personal files to the CDs which a re virtually Pennies per disc.
M

okay i understand i would not do that what u
suggested (connecting anothre good external hd
to the ailing laptop because i never connected it
before) . and about bios info, iwill tell u when i
have transfered all the data fron the bad external
hd (the good volume data so i won't have problem
when i use the recoveriy tools etc) and if it does
install window xp again or let me in all they way
inside (whre i can see the background, files etc)
for the laptop so i can install usb2.0 port (because
so it can transfer data faster then usb 1.1. so right
now i am transfering data from good volume of the
external hd to another good laptop when i am
done with it (just one more day) iwll turn on the
bad laptop and do what suggested. so please
bear with me but it will onlly take a day (just
tomorrow i will be ready and let u know )
and about the cd transfer way do i need a cd
burner or just a plain old cd drive to do it.. if i need
a cd burner, how will i transfer data when it won't
(if it doesn't) let me in where the data and files are
(the laptop)? also can i transfer data from the
corrupted volume of the external hd to CDs?
