Comment: HI, I have a toshiba dvd drive that I have been using for about 2 yrs. But since yesterday, the drive doesn't open, even though its working and functioning properly in device manager. I just makes a sound when i press the eject button, and few seconds later, tries to read for a cd as if it was just closed. HELP!!

Reply: (edit)Have you inserted a paperclip or another long thin tool into the tiny hole in the front of drive to see if you can free the gears and open the bay?

Reply: (edit)I had the same problem once with a CD Writer. In that case the drive belt (similar to a rubber band) had come off of the pulley. I was able to open up the drive housing and put the belt back on the pulley. Whatever the case, it is just a DVD Rom and they are very inexpensive to replace

Reply: (edit)Strangely, it doesn't have the tiny hole for the paper clip ejection! :( and buying a new one would be the last alternative!!!

Reply: (edit)Dear the man, this happend to me as well. It was the drive belt that had broken. Drive was replaced on warranty. Have you tried to open the PC, remove the drive and attempted to open it up to see if the drive belt is broken or disslocated? My drive was not openable so you might not be able to access the inside, if so I think replacement is the only way, is the unit under warranty? Don't mess with it if it is! Good luck-Lars
