UPS & serial to USB converter
I have purchased a Belkin UPS which uses a serial port to connect to my computer.
I only have 1 serial port which is in use.
I did purchase a "USB to Serial " adapter since I do have two available USB ports.
However, my computer recognized I had new hardware but can not "see" the USB port and says it can't find software to install "USB to serial converter".
I assume I could buy another serial card if I have the space.

Did the USB to Serial Converter come with a disk. If so you need to install the software for it.
Its unusual for a motherboard to only have one Serial Port. Check the Device Manager. If you see Com1 and Com2 then you have two serial ports.
Is this a motherboard with on-board video and the video connection is next to the Serial connection where the second serial connection would normally be? If this is the case then you will have a serial header on the motherboard. You need a serial header cable to take the header out to one of the blanking plates in the case. You will pick up one of these at any computer shop. I have a box full of them.

It's not unusual to have only one. I think most of hte newer Intel boards have only one. No one uses serial ports and more.
