Comment:

I have just bought a new motherboard & AMD Venice AMD64 3500+ cpu & new RAM.

Couple of things really. Firstly, I am not concerned about doing this work, (it is reasonably straight forward) but is it necessary to re-install windows when it is done as I have read elsewhere? Surely XP should be able to cope with the change & obviously all the new drivers will be on CD? I changed my CPU a couple of years ago & it was no problem but this time I am changing the mobo too.

Secondly, my new cpu & mobo support 64 bit windows. Is there any point in installing this yet, as most software is only catering for 32 bit at the moment? I know that they will run 64 bit Windows & still be able to run 32 bit software but that it won't be as quick, this sort of defeats the object really. Any thought, ideas etc much appreciated.

Cheers,

Garyb

If your older board had a similar chipset, all you'd need do is swap stuff and you're good to go.

There is only one satisfying way to boot a computer.
