Subject: Upgrading Gateway G6 RAM from 64MB
OS: WIndows XP
CPU/Ram: Pentium II/64MB
Model/Manufacturer: Gateway G6-266
Comment:

Because I want to set up a home network between a Dell Dimension 2400 running Windows XP and a Gateway G6-266 runs Windows XP, I would like to increase the G6's RAM to at least 128 MB from the original 64 MB. When I install a 128-MB module in place of the 64-MB module, I see the following lines displayed during boot-up"

0640K System RAM Passed
0310M Extended RAM Passed

Press <F1> to enter Setup

But the system does not respond when I press F1. It just seems lost in an endless loop.
When I press CRTL + Alt + Del, nothing happens either. I have bought two 128-MB modules both of which exhibit the same problem.

What can I do to resolve this problem? Your help will be much appreciated.

The Gateway G6-266 uses PC66 RAM, max of 128MB per slot. My guess is you bought incompatible RAM.

It's not a system worthy of WinXP, even with a RAM upgrade.
