I have read a few tech notes that claim you can upgrade from Window2000pro to XP. Here's the thing, when I pop in the XP cd and get ready to install it says that I can not upgrade from this version of windows. Any reasons why?

XP Home Edition doesn't upgrade from 2000; only XP Pro will.

Hi Jaser,

I don't think you can upgrade from Win2K to Xp pro.

Had the same issue myself.

I ended up doing a clean install of Xp.

You can do this from the Xp CD, just make CD-ROM 1st bootable device.[Settings in the bios]

Obviously back-up all you need from your Win2K and you should be good to go.

Most peoples recommendation is a clean install, rather than a upgrade.

Hope this helps you

I never tried this; I was going by what TechTV had posted.

I guess you can't to an upgrade.

Sorry about that.

Ya, someone on the Microsoft site said that if it's a OEM version then I can not upgrade. Go figure? Thanks for your responses!

Always do a clean install! Always! Thats the only way to get it going without problems.

Even with a clean install, I don't think it's going to work. You'll need a qualifying product either way, and if Windows 2k is not considered a qualifying product, doing a clean install won't help.

I was like 99% sure though that you could upgrade from 2k Pro to XP Pro. Might want to check on that again.
