upgraded ram,will not boot into XP

Specs: XP, 2200/512
Tried to upgrade from 512 to 1gb of ram,computer just boots into Dos.Replaced 512 meg of ram and it still does not boot into XP just dos,even tried different hard drive,just dos. The computer is a Sony Vaio
PCV 2234 desktop.

Try running a program like MEMTEST86+


My guess is either something is wrong with one of the memory sticks or the memory controller doesn't support your RAM module for some reason, such as a non-standard "low density" memory module or the wrong speed. When Windows tries to access the additional memory, it crashes. DOS doesn't have this problem since it doesn't normally try to access memory above 640k, and IIRC correctly even the best DOS extenders can't access more than 256 MB or so.
