HI, I am trying to upgrade from xp home to xp pro on my Toshiba laptop. I am gettig a message that all the files will be overwritten including My Documents. I am using an upgrade version of xp pro, not the full version. Will I actually lose files if I continue? I have already backed up everything. Thanks in advance for all input.

Unless there is a very compelling reason to ditch Home for Pro, I'd suggest you stay with Home, afterall it's not much different from Pro.

And just to clarify, The Upgrade version is identical to the full version but with an extra step in the setup that requires verification of ownership of a qualifying earlier version. You can use a "Full" version to perform an upgrade instal if that's what type of disk you have.
Since you say you've backed up your stuff then proceed or not. What does it matter if your files are overwritten?

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

I would use NTbackup and actually test the backup to be sure. Otherwise as above.

I think I ought to add one more thing to the list of what XP Pro has that XP Home don't - Gpedit. It's a powerful tool that allow you to manipulate Computer & User configurations in many ways. Also if you are running WMCE you also have Gpedit.
