Upgrade 98 to XP Question

Comment:
I've been using hp cd-writer 9500 series to burn my CD's. My dad has raised the question that when I upgrade from '98 to XP, XP may not be able to read my previously burned CD's. Is this correct?
I've been backing up my hard drive on CD using this particular cd-writer, but if I won't be able to read the CD's after upgrade I'm wondering what's the point. :-/
Any advice?
P.S. I wasn't sure what was being asked for "System Manufacturer". I have a Gateway computer, 333 Mhz Celeron processor, 30 gig hard drive, 256 MB memory. If other information is needed, just ask and I'll do my best to answer. ;)

No, i dont think an upgrade would cause a problem with cd readability.

Okay ... I've updated to XP and put my CD's in to download my backed up files and it's not reading any information on them. I could read them just fine this afternoon before I began XP installation. What can I do to retrieve this information?
Once again, I'm using hp cd-writer 9500 series. I haven't used the hp installation disk because my dad told me not to because it doesn't have drivers for XP. Should I take a chance and use the disk anyway?

Well I took a risk and installed the software ... BIG MISTAKE! XP kept giving me a message about disabling incompatible drivers. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, and uninstalling again. No luck. Repair didn't work, so I ended up doing another clean install. I really learned my lesson here. I'll never, never, ever again install any software that doesn't have a big, fat XP on it. ;)
I'm posting this as a warning to others.

Go to HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?dlc=en&lc=en&product=61596&lang=en&cc=us&os=228 Remove all old drivers. Install this XP compatible driver from the HP website and this will solve your problem
