I have XP installed on my main drive C: and a number of other drives for different things. one of these is called 'Y: Data' and XP keeps storing the updates on this drive.

why? and how do I change this to where it should be?

you are VERY wrong...the updates are stored in windows path...in the other partition are stored some temporary data that are not necessary...
