Hi. I recently installed zone alarm pro 6 on my computer and recieved a strange alert from it. It said:

"Updates from HP.exe is trying to monitor your mouse movements and keyboard strokes"

I checked my program files directory, and there was a folder called Updates from HP, which had the exe in it. As far as i can remember, this exe has always been in the procceses, and also shows up in the applications tab, In Task Manager. My computer is an HP computer. I'm just confused whether this is a legitimate process, or a keylogger.

I don't think updated from HP has anything to do with monitoring keystrokes or mouse movements. If you have Syware programs, run them, and also do a complete system scan at www.housecall.antivirus.com.

Thanks ill try that. In the meantime, another alert came up:

"Run DLL As an App is trying to monitor your mouse movements and keyboard strokes"

Process Name: rundll32.exe
Confusion Again. This doesnt seem like any HP Agent.

Some info on HP.exe here. It seems that it is possible that this file could be dangerous.

Ok.... this is getting weird. I installed Security Task manager, and another alert came up saying it TOO wanted to record keyboard and mouse strokes.

I am wondering now whether something is wrong With Zone Alarm....

No software records keystrokes and mouse movements except a keylogger. Watch what you do until you get rid of it. Do what I told you to do. It's not zone alarm either. It doesn't record anything.

I think its just a glitch in zone alarm 6, which thinks the applications are trying to monitor keyboard and mouse strokes but they might be doing something else. I ran housecall ,didnt detect anything. zonealarm had antispyware in it, which detected a few adwares, nothing major.

I had tried ZApro6 a month or so back. It is an obtrusive bug-ridden blemish on what used to be a valuable firewall option. I uninstalled it after less than a day as it prevented me from popping email using any pop client. I reverted to version 5 and will not update again. If you have spybot S&D plus Adaware SE, an antivirus installed and a firewall then the ZA6 update is not needed. It tries to duplicate the functions of all the other available security tools and in doing so interferes with too many functions. I could not even start a game without ZA popping up with a warning about dangerous activity. I remember once before about two ot three years back ZA put an update out that instantly crashed a lot of systems. It seems they have forgotten that lesson with version 6 and have unleashed another lemon on the public.
Suggest you revert to an earlier version.
End of rant.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

I would agree with the above post. This is not the first forum where I have read similar articles on ZA6. Uninstall it and see where you stand.
