I reinstalled windows and then went to windows update. It said that I needed to reinstall the winxp service pack. While it was installing I received this error message
setup could not verify the intergrity of the file Update.inf.
Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computerI went to help/support and did the following. I checked in the admis. tools and saw that the cryptographic service is started. It then said that if that fails to do the following:
run, type cmd, type the following commands and enter after each one.
net stop cryptsvc (enter)
it said that the service stopped successfullyren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 (enter)
this said that access was denied. What do I need to do so the sp1 update can continue?
Can someone please assist me?
Thanking you in advance,
Nanette
I don't know if this could be the problem...after I reinstalled windows it asked me to register with MS. I said I would do it later. Could this be the problem? If it is, what do I need to do? I registered with MS when I first got this computer. Can I reregister windows?
thanx

Maybe to do so, you must be logged on as the administrator. To log on as the administrator, bootup in SAFE mode (By pressing F8 at bootup, then choose SAFE MODE), Click on the administrator icon, type in the passwors and redo
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2 (enter)

Thank you. I have the problem fixed. I had to add another line to the run/cmd prompt. The SP1 update has been successfully installed and I have AOL 7.0.
Thanks to all that have helped me.
Nanette
