Comment: Update: I have downloaded a xp boot disk maker for microsoft.com today on my win 98. I have tried the boot disks and there was a message saying they require another type of disk to do The Automated System Recovery. For now I am still using all my computer skills to try to fix my comp. I am new to this sitiuation. I need your help fast. I will update this to you as much as possible. Previous Post: Hi, I joined 11/24/03, I am new to this website, so please don't critize the ways I explain stuff. I am on another one of my computers, typing this. My XP started rebooting left and right on 11/22. My computer is password protected. That afternoon on 11/22, when I start up my win xp, it immediatly restarted, the 2nd time I typed in my password in the black screen, it restarted agian. I physically rebooted my xp, but nothing helped. Even when I set it in Safe mode, it restarts itself and boots normally and restarts again in the middle of boot up. I need help quickly and good step by step instructions NOW!!! If my explaining is not that clear or you need more detail please say so in your response and I will fix my post. But please give me help quickly!

Reply: (edit)Boot from the XP CD and go past the recovery console to the install menu. Select REPAIR THE EXISTING INSTALLATION. It will reinstall XP. You won't lose anything except the updates. You will have to reinstall them. REgds.

Reply: (edit) Follow the suggestions above. Probably gonna have to reinstall XP.
Your experiencing a system failure error probably. However, the system is setup to "automatically restart" when this happens. Too bad the restart happens so quickly or else you could disable this option and then actually see the error message on the screen without it restarting when getting the system error. You can find this option (when you get it working again) via Start->Control Panel->System->Advanced->Startup and Recovery. Hit Settings. You'll see an option to automatically restart - either it's checked or not. Mark Mark
