Just days my New PC will be connected (I hope ) .
I noticed I got McAfee for 90 days ( Trial Version )
Should I also download the Free Ware of Zone Alarm, AVG, Ad-Aware, C Cleaner, Spyware Blaster , Spyware Guard, Spybot, & CW Shredder , or only some and if so which one ?.
Or should I get only 1 and pay for it , being in a wheelchair my income has changed .
On my present PC I can’t update C Cleaner, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Guard , Ad-Aware, only Spybot updates only
I did look into Internet Option in “Privacy” and in the Edit box and didn’t see any of the above names I mention it .
So which culprit-s is responsible for all this ?
I would like to get th PC working perfectly as I given the PC to my ex-wife .

Most grateful for your help or your opinion ,
Vivere

before you pass on your old pc, wipe it clean and do a fresh installation. this is not only a matter of hygiene! :-)

as for your new dell, if you want to save money and system resources, get rid of mcafee (which is not easy :-) and use avg free.

for safer browsing get firefox (i also recommend NoScript & FlashBlock extensions).

also zonealarm free should be sufficient.

Today's subliminal thought is: 'Calm down ... it's only ones and zeros.'

I agree with Mattie, but I don't use FireFox because of one rather minor complaint.

In the Dell, I would also get rid of any signs of McAfee as it will do more damage than good if you use it.

My preferences would be to Install Avast! free for home as the AV, free online updates as you surf the net and also realtime protection that means it is hassle free. No need to set up scans, etc.

As for the firewall, insted of ZA which has been getting some bad reviews in the past, I would try Tiny firewall or a new free one called Comodo firewall which has great tech support.
As far as the browser, as long as your criticals are up-to-date I would suggest using IE. Firefox is my 2nd choice.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I would not recommend McAfee, as they are stopping updating version 10. The new version 11 will include too much junk...... McAfee AntiSpyware; McAfee firewall; and of course McAfee Virus Scan. There will be no way to use Virus Scan without the other crap, unless you stick to version 10 and choose not to get updated definitions.
Big, big mistake on McAfee's part...I can see the exodus of disgruntled people already.
I use the free AVG and am very happy with it. Not a big resource hog like McAfee and Norton are.
For my firewall, I am using a slightly older version of Zone Alarm. Works well for me and is fully stealthed on the Shields Up test site.
I got rid of Adaware S.E.; Spybot; and Windows Defender. I now use the free Ewido antispyware scanner. I also like SpywareBlaster for stopping a lot of malware from infiltrating your pc in the first place... works great.
Hope this helps a bit....

FYI McAfee plans to follow the route of M$ Windows OneCare - what this means is that all updates are done while your internet connection is live - nothing to install except a small install wizard. Once that is done McAfee must be allowed to remain in constant contact with its mothership. This concept is what "Live" is all about.

Now the big question is...... just what is the live sniffer sending to the mothership?

Actually, I used Virus Scan for three years, and in fact I was rather pleased with it too. But I certainly don't like this new concept of having all three programs running. I want my Zone Alarm; not theirs..... Plus I have my own antispyware utilities, I certainly do not want theirs.

I contacted McAfee and asked them if I could continue using Virus Scan 10. I was told no, the new package will include everything. There's gonna be some surprised people when they recieve this new junk; thinking that they are getting new definitions only. Surprise... you get the whole damn thing, lol...

What a job I had removing McAfee files, lol... Tons and tons of registry entries. I used their download of McAfee Delete Tool and it worked perfectly. I later cleaned up some residual stuff with C-Cleaner and Clean Up.
Oh, I also noticed a much faster boot-up time without McAfee. The AVG is working extremely well and is not a resource hog; computer boots super fast now. I never knew how much McAfee bogged me down, lol.

At one time just for fun I disallowed WOC to call home and the next thing I got was a red flag in the systray and popup saying the PC security is at high risk :-)

BTW there is a name for McAfee sniffer patterned after M$ WOC.

The name is McAfee Falcon (no more Version number) Four different family members constitute the Falcon. For more info READ ME.

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp ,, zone alarm . that should set you right up
