This is for Windows XP Pro. I get a strange box on the left side of my desktop that's driving me crazy. It's got three boxes -- Folder Tasks, Other Places, Details -- with s dropdown menu. How do I get rid of it? It's in the way. It wasn't there when I first installed WinXP.

Go to Windows explorer. Click tools, folder options, then select "use windows classic folders".

That box remains in Classic also. There must be some other configuration that was turned on somehow.
