Subject: unusual 1706 error
OS: winXP 2002 SP 1
CPU/Ram: AMD 1.99Ghz 480Mb RAM
Comment:

I keep receiving this error message:

"Error 1706. Setup cannot find the required files. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\1033\SETUP.HLP."
It asks for the Microsoft Office XP Professional CD
This error message appears when I open internet browsers, Photoshop, games. Anything that involves opening a new window causes it to appear. Does anyone have any suggestions? I searched through the forums, but none of the other posts seemed to quite apply, and the solutions did not help.

You have probably not the proper version of the product supported by the patch. E.g. you have MDT5 instead of AutoCAD 2000i or you have the german version of a product and you are trying to apply the english patch.

as per another site

Snippet off of Deja.com. If MS Office was installed from a different source (e.g. net vs. CD) you can run into the 1706 error. You may be able to run Setup /FMV from the CD to change it.

another possibility.

After searching harder, I think this problem might be caused by the deletion of cftmon.exe by a spyware-removal program. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get cftmon back or disable the processes that use it?
