I have started with a remote med transcription company that requires me to use MS Word 2000 or 2002. I have installed that, but now it wants me to uninstall all other Word programs. I don't have the disk for Word 1997, but I'm asked to load the disk to uninstall??!! How can I do that without the disk?

mmm... I have managed to have more than one version of Word/office installed (at the same time) - and both/either with Works still resident too.
All that I ever had to do was to ensure each went into its own folder etc. Works remained in the Works folder; Office-97 went into (manually created at installation time) root folder Office-97 and components into sub-folders; Office 2000 similarly... Otherwise no problems...
So do you really have to remove Works at all?
Just keep each version in its own root folder etc.?

I don't really see a reason why you should have to remove your other word programs. It could be some other problem windows is not telling you.
It happens, saying one thing and meaning something else.

In addition to the above, I don't know why you would need to have the disks to unistall. Control panel> add/ remove programs should do the job.

Did you install Word 2000 or XP (2002)? Were you not asked whether or not to remove any older versions when you installed the new?
Life's more painless for the brainless.

Works is a cut down version of Office if I recall correctly. Presuming so... it will/does use the .doc format etc.; and versions of Word will usually open them OK or - depending on version of each - Word may require the appropriate add-in filter/converter (part of M$-Office files); and Works may require similar.
(Bin a while since I dun run Works...)

I once received a document written in Works and the file extension wasn't .doc. Seems like that may have something to do with the issue here of needing an install CD. Possibly to convert the documents into a universal format.

Dug a little more on this one; discovered (from the www) for Office (Word) to read etc. Works files.. it needs the appropriate converter installed (in Office). I have a pattern of installing a range of M$ converters by default - as I'm not always sure what file/doument formats I may have to deal with (though mostly it's the M$ family).
With the above in mind that is probably why I never had any issues with Works files into Office...
So OtH is very probably correct in his initial observations.
