so here is the scenario. i am trying to enable dmz host on this computer on the network here at the house. this way i can host games on battlenet for warcraft 3. well, i attempt to access my router ip address in my web browswer so i can change the port settings and what not. well, i get a 401 authorization required error. telling me i have either the wrong credentials or my browser doesn't understand the credentials i am providing. i called the router company, its a wireless card, interestingly a linksys. theyve got a built in firewall on their routers i understand. so they tell me to call the isp. guess what they tell me...to call the router manufacturer..so about about 2 hours of tech support, i didnt get anything solved. the riddle is how do i get into my router config page?? i get no password or user name prompt, it just takes me straight to a red screen with that 401 error message on it.its like a car with its lights and engine on, but the keys are locked inside. thanks in advance if you buffs can solve this one.

https or console connection to the router. I'm amazed Linksys tech support couldn't/wouldn't get you in.

i dont understand your suggestion =). im not too computer literate, i know a little. ive tried entering my router addy. i spent about 45 minutes on the phone with linksys tech 2 different times. possibly is there a way to enable dmz host without getting into my router config page? or perhaps some file i could manually edit to foward the necessary ports? any ideas? what is this console connection idea?

You could try doing a reset on the router, on a linksys wireless there's probably a little red button on the back. That will reset all of the info (including password) to default. To access it go to http://192.168.1.1 (I think that's the default) and check documentaion for the default password. If you still dont get a password prompt, it's possible that your browser is using an incorrect saved password. Also, you may have to set your local IP manually to 192.168.1.x (where x is any # from 2-253) subnet 255.255.255.0 and gateway 192.168.1.1

Reset your Linksys router by pressing the little pinhole on the back for 30 seconds then power the PC OFF and then power the router back ON and then power the PC ON and let it SYNC and then open your browser and type in the URL space: http://192.168.0.1/
and press ENTER.
I think the default password is password.
Also, sometimes you can be block the web-based config by your IE settings OR a firewall, make sure JAVA and ACTIVE X are ON, should not matter but may help.

Haha, you wouldn't belive this Drew but I am having the same problem as you are for the same reason, I want to be able to host Warcraft 3 Games, and I have been on e-mail with linksys for a couple days now and now that I have seen this I can email them and tell them that the Ie might have a different defaultt password and if they know they will tell us how to change it!

I started feeling alone......But now I know someone else has a problem, I will give this link to Linksys and tell them to post here so all that visit can fix there problem because I am sure that there are many more people out there with the same problem as us !
