Dear All, I picked up a rather nasty Trojan and after futile attempts to purge it from the OS I decided to bite the bullet and pull the plug.

The reinstallation did the trick and it was great to see how the Xp whizzes in action.

I managed to get my basic programs running
with very little trouble, except for two.

One is the RM reproducer, which doesn't see .RM files. This is not too important and I'll put it on the back burner.

But my only game , X-Plane9, starts... loads the scenery and then at some point in its 900MB checking, decides it wants to talk to microsoft and sends off a billet deux.

This of course doesn't help me.

I went to the control panel and surprisingly X-plane 9 was not on the list of installed programs.

I did a search with regseeker and ther are only a few entries, things like where the program is located, where the scenery and planes folders are to be found and not much more.

I would be most grateful if someone could suggest things the get lost when you have a virus attack and have to reinstall the OS.

Just to clear things up. I keep a copy of my main folders on drive D: so really it is not a crisis situation wiping the C: disk, just a bit slow reconstructing.

If the question as to getting ( my legally bought copy) up and running has no answer, then , yes, I'll wipe out the xplane folder and reinstall from scratch... it is a very slow installation on my old computer.

If anyone has any ideas as to why my xplane folder and sub folders have become unwanted then I will chase up whatever seems reasonable to see if the plane can get off the ground again.

Bye and thanks,

Fred

Just a guess!! Maybe installing the latest video card driver?

Or, if you had already installed the latest driver, trying an older one might be worth a try.

FWIW to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to NTVDM.EXE, the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.
