Hello everyone,

Yesterday I noticed that there were a few files that appeared on my desktop that I did not place there. I tried to delete them, but I get an error message that says: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk".

The file names are:

CAKPU7S1
CA0TMFKH
CANEOBVH

I have run adaware, but it doesn't find anything. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much ;)

Try deleting in Windows safe-Mode, or search the
web for a program MoveOnBoot.

Hi Chuck,

I downloaded moveonboot, but when I tried to delete the file on reboot it says "The file ... CA0TMFKH either is locked or does not exist. Do you want to continue". I hit 'yes' but upon reboot, there is no change.

When I tried to delete in safemode, I get the same message as before: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk".

The only other thing I've tried is to rename the file, but it won't let me do that either. Any ideas?

Thanks ;) Katie

It is probably a tech log file for some program you have installed. They have gotten pretty cute in protecting the files now so that they can,t be deleted untill after the program has been uninstalled.

There are quite a few of these guys showing up lately. They are harmless in most cases.

A couple of things that you can do.

1) set a new restore point on your system...
systemmatically open the programs one by one and delete any back-up files that they have storedand clear any cache. This will either delete the file or change it so that you can delete it.

It is not a windows file so I would look to your third party programs such as anti-virus, firewalls, spyware utillities and the such.

The other thing is to go to "my documents" open a new folder name it whatever suits you and then send the file there. It will be off your desktop and out of the way. Out of site out of mind if you will. Some time in the future as more and more of these pop up then someone will be able to get a handle on it and point to what program it is associated with and you can then move it to that program folder.
