I don't know about Outlook but with OE there is always a Microsoft 'Welcome to OE' Message in the Inbox - until you Delete it

Open OE and see if that is the relevant Message

FYI

By design, Windows uses a hyperlink to your e-mail client which in turn populate the number of unread e-mail messages. There is nothing you can do to eliminate it. It is a built-in feature of all Windows XP Home Edition-based computers and on Windows XP Professional-based computers that are not members of a domain.

One day years ago I took home with me a brand new PC. I took it out of the box, hooked it up, ran the XP installation, and then this very PC told me I have 899 unread mail. At that time I was intrigued how it knew :-)

Open the OE Inbox and Delete the Welcome Message - just Highlight it and Click the Delete Button on the ToolBar

Hi Lesley

ok, but I only saw 1 message in the inbox, and nothing else from sent, outlook box etc... and my login desktop says I have 29 unread messages.
