Specs: XP Pro, 2.4 Ghz/ 2GB
When I boot my laptop, it goes to a screen (Screen 1) where it asks whether you want to boot on 1. Safe Mode, 2. Safe Mode Networking, 3. Safe Mode Command Prompt, 4. Last Configuration it worked and 5. Normal Mode.

When I click boot on any Safe Mode, it runs bunch of files and stops at AVGIDSEH.sys.

When I click boot on Normal Mode, the laptop restarts again and stops at this same screen (asking for above actions).

I clicked F8 to get into advance screen (Screen 2), in that I even tried the "Debug Mode", nothing happened. It just restarted and went to Screen 1.

Then I selected "Don't restart after error" option. My laptop booted and stopped at error and it showed UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error.

What should I do now?

Things I tried:
I restarted my computer with the Windows XP Setup disk in the CDROM drive. I wanted to repair the installation
(to hit "R" to use your Recovery Console to repair the installation).
It didn't boot from CD.

Even before doing this I went to BIOS setup and changed it to boot from CD Rom. Still my laptop is not booting from CD ROM

Thank You

AVGIDSEH.sys belongs to AVG Antivirus if it is located here:

If it's located anywhere else it could be malware masquerading as an AVG file.

When you changed first boot device to CD-ROM, did you remember to invoke the "Save to CMOS and Exit" prompt, and select 'YES' ?

"Save to CMOS and Exit" is usually invoked by pressing F10 whilst your still in the BIOS Setup.
