Unmountable Boot Volume

OS: Win XP Home
CPU/Ram: Celeron/256

On boot up get a message which says Win shutting down to prevent damage etc... UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. I cannot start up in safe mode or get to the recovery console, nothing works. Cannot boot from the cdr or XP floppy disk or from Norton cd.

F8 brings up the advanced choices but nothing occurs when Safe mode or any other mode is selected.

Tech info says

STOP 0x000000ed (0x8f4c7e8,0xc0000032,0x00000000,0x00000000)

Am not using the pc with problem

Any ideas please
