unmountable boot volume

When I start my Computer I get a blue screen with the message "unmountable_boot_volume"
I got instructions to start the recovery console and type chkdsk /r.
I got that far without any problems. But it quickly asks me for the exact location of AUTOCHK.exe . I don’t have an XP cd since I bought this piece of garbage at future shop. I used six floppies to start the recovery console.
Could someone tell me the exact path to AUTOCHK.exe ??? or is more complicated then that..

Once I follow those instructions i get a message:
"AUTOCHK.EXE could not be located in either the startup directory or the CDROM drive
Type the full path (including the drive letter for the location of AUTOCHK.exe :"
Does anyone know the path or what to do at this stage?

My unmountable_boot_volume difficulty was cured IMMEDIATELY without any further fixing when I replaced the 40 conductor cable with the proper 80 conductor cable. That is what the MS links tell you to do. The 'fixes' just shut down the capabilities of the advanced features of the HD. For a $10 cable it was an easy fix for my turn.
