Just today I cannot get on my other computer, yesterday it was working fine. Every time I start up I get to the blue screen saying unmountable_boot_volume and at the very bottom is says:
*** STOP:0x000000ED (0x81321c30, 0xc0000006, 0x00000000, 0x0000000)I have tried running my computer in safe mode but I just can't get past the blue screen to use any of the CDs to re-install XP. Sorry for the lack of information but anything you have to suggest is appreciated. Thanks

This is a known issue that's as old as XP itself, and you need to run chkdsk /r to resolve it.

I have looked at that before (thanks for letting me know I was looking at the right thing haha) but I can't even get past the blue screen. I can't get any cds to run and I can't get any programs going because once I am in the blue screen (which no matter what I do) I am always suck there, the screen is in a sense frozen. Thanks

If you want to reinstall XP you can do that by booting off the CD. This site outlines all the steps - http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

Where do I enter the chkdsk /r? While starting up I get the optios as follows:
safe mode
safe mode with networking
safe mode with command promptlast known good configuration
start windows normally
Now I am guessing that to get the commands that you select "safe mode with command prompt". However when I click that I get a long list of about 30 "codes" with the same beginning which is:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\c\winxp\system32\drivers\*with different endings*That list is up for about 15 seconds then it switches to the blue screen which I have to just shut down my computer from. I would hate to reinstall everything because I have a lot of important things on there and infact I don't even know if I have the right CDs. Thanks, I hope you understood all that!

if that doesnt work, i would try your basic boot disk, or windows 98se disk...that way it will take you right to the dos prompt, and it will avoid/bypass the blue screen.
from there you can run the chkdsk util.
and also, to respond to your point about the reinstalling everything. IF you do run the chkdsk and it doesnt work, you can always boot of the xp disk and instead of installing a fresh copy, you hit R to repair it. That way it will just install the windows files and components and will not erase or wipe anything out, it will just reinstall the files needed for windows.
and also, you can try last known good configuration as well..that cant hurt either.

Well Johnson,
You are using a Dell Comp, so first run the Dell Diagnostic on the HDD... Inorder to run it, Tap the F12 Key on the Kbd when you see the Dell Logo... Then select either HardDrive Diagnostic or IDE Drive Diagnostic... If anything Fails in that test then Contact the Tech Support and get your HDD replaced if your system is under Warranty... If the Test Passed, then you have to use the Windows XP CD that was shiped with the comp... YOu have to put that CD in the top Drive incase you had 2 CD Drives and then Restart system and once again tap F12 on Dell Logo... This time select IDE CD Drive and hit enter... You will get a message that says "Press any key to boot from CD..." So do that Quickly... Then it will start loading the CD... When it gives you some Options, Tap the "R" key on KBD to start in Recovery Console... In there you need to do the CHKDSK /r...
Let us know if this Helps

My PC never Crashes nor does it have Bugs - It just develops random Features at times.

weird, I also have a dell and am having the same problem. When I try to boot from any of my xp install cds [for other computers] I get error code 7 when loading executive files [or something like that, it was a krnl.dll] So I cant even get in to do a chkdsk.
I made a bootdisk so I can just get to the command prompt but chkdsk isn't on my system. So, it seems I'm pretty stuck. My system is no longer under warranty. [bought it used] and their tech support knows about the problem so I cant get the newuser warranty until I replace the harddrive which they believe is the issue. I tried two different brands/sizes of hard-drives from a local shop and still got the error code 7.
Any help is GREATLY appreciated as this is my work computer [self employed] Feel free to get me on yahoo or msn by name Solace015.
In advance, thanks!
