unmountable boot volume

The unmountable boot volume error message tells me to restart and use safe mode. I do so and it returns to same error. Any suggestions. Technical information reads:
stop: 0x000000ed (0x8178ce30,0xc000009c,0x00000000,0x00000000)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

how do i do this?
In the BIOS settings for your computer, load the 'Fail-Safe' default settings, and then reactivate the most frequently used options such as USB Support.
