I started my computer at work and got the Blue Screen of Death. The message was "Unmountable Boot Volume" what exactly does this mean and can my information on my hard drive be saved?

This is usally a result of a messed up boot.ini file.

Use your Windows XP CD, and boot your computer with it. (Might have to change BIOS to boot from CD)

Enter recovery console and select the windows installation you want to fix. (Usually 1)

At the prompt enter:

chkdsk /p /r

It will take awhile, but should help. When its done, type:

fixboot

Type EXIT when done.

Remember, after trying the fix in the recovery console, change BIOS back to the boot order you had, if you made the change.

Good Luck
