Comment:

I have this unmoutable boot volume message coming up. I have NO Win XP cd, cause it didn;t come with one. SO I use the floppies to boot from.
I get to the recovery menu and I get this message
Choose one of the following to log on to
1 D:\MiniNT
2 D:\i386

I am lost, I have tried either of these and then to repair or chkdsk them but it says autochk.exe could not be found type the full path location

Your PC is a HP and I am very familiar with it. HP provides the means for you to create a set of Recovery CD the very first time you turned on the machine.

It never ceases to astound me that people run with no way to reinstall winders.

Do they somehow get the impression that winders never poops out?

If you're lucky, the d:\i386 contains the approx 4000 files needed to install XP.

To find out do this:

d:\i386\winnt
[enter]

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.
